Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated a global mental health crisis, intensifying rates of anxiety, depression, trauma, and social distress. This review synthesizes post-pandemic mental health outcomes through societal, economic, and healthcare perspectives to examine how recovery pathways are shaped across diverse populations. Using ecological, biopsychosocial, and resilience frameworks, it explores how social environments, economic instability, and structural inequities influence long-term psychological well-being. Global trends reveal persistent mental health challenges, particularly among youth, healthcare workers, and marginalized groups. Societal factors such as disrupted social networks, stigma, and shifting family dynamics either hinder or facilitate recovery. Economic stressors including unemployment and financial insecurity exacerbate distress, while robust social protection systems offer buffering effects. Healthcare systems adapted rapidly through telepsychiatry and digital tools, though gaps in access and workforce strain remain. Policy efforts increasingly prioritize mental health, yet many countries struggle with fragmented implementation and inadequate funding. Community-based supports and digital innovations provide promising strategies for resilience, particularly in low-resource settings. Cross-cultural comparisons highlight the need for context-sensitive, equitable approaches. By identifying barriers and future priorities, this review underscores the urgency of integrating mental health into broader public health, economic recovery, and governance frameworks to build resilient and inclusive systems for future crises.
