Abstract

Many studies have shown that carcinoma in situ can be detected for several years before it progresses to invasive cancer by cytological screening.2 The screening programs every five years in several countries have been able to reduce the incidence and mortality from cervical cancer by 60%.During this study, one day cervical screening camp was organized at Mandap Sahi ,Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar on 2nd December 2018.During this study the mean age of presentation was 38 years age with range between 18 years to 70 years age. Majority 44(73.3%) of the women attending the camp were in the reproductive age group i.e. (15-45) years. The Pap smear slides were collected from all 60 women for the confirmation of diagnoses. Of the smears, 23(38.33%) smears showed benign inflammatory changes and 7(11.6%) had an evidence of infection such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, 29(48.3%) were normal where as suspicious of malignancy and suggestive of malignancy were found in each 1 cases. In developing countries like India, cytology, a low cost and easily accessible test, is the most logical screening modality. Hence efforts must be directed towards education of women regarding cervical cancer in order to promote awareness of malignancy and to motivate them for cytological screening in the future
