Abstract
Digital media platforms have transformed health communication by enabling rapid, interactive, and accessible dissemination of information. This review examines how social media, mobile health applications, online communities, and AI-driven tools enhance public awareness, support behavioral interventions, and shape health decision-making. Grounded in behavioral theories such as the Health Belief Model and Social Cognitive Theory, it highlights how digital environments influence risk perception, self-efficacy, and social norms. Evidence shows that digital campaigns, personalized messaging, and participatory engagement improve health literacy and promote positive behaviors, from vaccination uptake to chronic disease management. However, challenges such as misinformation, unequal access, data privacy concerns, and the digital divide threaten their effectiveness. The review explores strategies for building trust, improving message credibility, and leveraging behavioral analytics to refine interventions. Global case studies demonstrate the adaptability of digital platforms across diverse contexts, while policy and ethical considerations underscore the need for regulated, inclusive, and transparent digital ecosystems. Future directions emphasize technological innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and digital literacy to ensure equitable and impactful health communication. Ultimately, digital media holds significant potential to democratize health knowledge and foster sustainable behavior change when guided by responsible governance and user-centered design.
