Evaluating Early Childhood Health Education Programs and Parental Engagement in Promoting Lifelong Physical and Mental Well-Being

Abstract
Early childhood health education is a foundational investment that shapes long-term physical, mental, and social well-being. This review examines the effectiveness of early childhood health education programs and highlights the pivotal role of parental engagement in reinforcing healthy behaviors. Grounded in ecological, cognitive, and life-course theories, early health education integrates structured learning with environmental support to influence lifelong health trajectories. Global initiatives by organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, and UNESCO emphasize inclusive, culturally responsive, and intersectoral approaches that combine education, nutrition, and psychosocial care. Effective programs use play-based, experiential learning and actively involve parents as co-educators, strengthening the continuity between school and home. Evidence shows that such programs improve children’s nutrition, hygiene, emotional regulation, and cognitive readiness while reducing long-term risks of chronic disease and behavioral challenges. Despite their benefits, early health education initiatives encounter barriers including resource constraints, inequitable access, limited parental participation, and weak monitoring systems. Emerging technologies such as digital platforms and mobile health tools offer new opportunities to enhance learning and engagement. The review concludes with policy and research recommendations that promote sustainability, equity, and innovation. Strengthening early education systems through parental partnership and evidence-based strategies is essential for building healthier families and communities across generations.
