Abstract
Green biotechnology leverages biological systems, organisms, and processes to develop sustainable, eco-friendly solutions in pharmaceutical and healthcare applications. By utilizing plants, microbes, and enzymes, it enables cost-effective production of vaccines, therapeutic proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and bioactive compounds while reducing environmental impact and chemical waste. Innovations such as plant-based pharmaceuticals, microbial therapeutics, biosensors, biodegradable drug delivery systems, and RNA-based vaccines offer safer and efficient alternatives to conventional methods. Furthermore, these approaches minimize reliance on animal testing, align with ethical standards, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As healthcare faces challenges like drug resistance, emerging infectious diseases, and global health disparities, green biotechnology provides scalable, innovative, and environmentally responsible strategies. This review highlights current advancements, key applications, and ethical and environmental advantages, emphasizing its transformative potential in modern medicine.
