Abstract
Awareness is a critical enabler of cervical cancer eradication, shaping the uptake and effectiveness of vaccination, screening,
and timely treatment. Despite the availability of highly effective biomedical interventions, global progress remains uneven due to gaps in knowledge, misconceptions, stigma, and weak communication between health systems and communities. Awareness extends beyond individual knowledge to include community norms, provider competence, and system-level messaging that supports informed decision-making across the female life course. From adolescence, where understanding HPV vaccination is central, through reproductive years that require screening literacy, to older age when symptom recognition and continued risk awareness are essential, tailored communication is vital. Over the past decade, school-based programs, media campaigns, community engagement, and digital health initiatives have improved visibility of cervical cancer prevention and increased service uptake in several settings. However, persistent disparities affect marginalized populations due to low health literacy, cultural barriers, misinformation, and inconsistent provider counseling. This review examines global progress in awareness initiatives, identifies remaining gaps, and highlights opportunities to strengthen awareness through life-course approaches, community participation, digital innovation, and policy alignment. Strengthening awareness is essential to translate scientific advances into equitable, population-level impact and to achieve sustainable cervical cancer elimination.
